These Nocturnes are influenced more by the many Nocturne paintings of James McNeil Whistler, than by the Nocturnes of Chopin or Debussy. Several of Whistler’s Nocturne paintings reflect, both literally and figuratively, his responses to the calming qualities of the color combinations of evenings in various locales. I was inspired by these color palettes even as I worked with the found materials of these smaller pieces.
